locked nintendo wii’s?

Im looking to buy a used nintendo wii off of craigslist and I keep running into post that say ” I can modify or unlock your wii ” i know what they mean by modify but unlock? that has me thinking there is a chance I can buy a locked wii that cant access the internet. So what do you know about locked wii’s? is it like I think it is? can you please tell me cause I really hope im wrong.

They’re talking about removing the region restrictions. You could play Japanese & European games on your American Wii. ( Or any combination of the 3 ) I wouldn’t do it, since when Nintendo updates the firmware again to stop things like this you might end up with a pretty white paperweight. If you plan on hacking any console, buy 2- one for legit games, and one for your not legit /homebrew games.
